Welcome to the website of Angelo Henry – who on 7 April 2009 became the 1st South African and African to achieve The Grand Slam by completing a standard marathon of 42.2 km on all 7 Continents as well as The North Pole.
Also the 1st South African and African to complete a marathon in the close vicinity of both the South Pole (Antarctica December 2008) and The North Pole in April 2009.
Angelo started running at the age of 40 after smoking more than two packets of cigarettes a day for more than 20 years.
Recent events in 2011:
Angelo recently completed the 115th Boston Marathon on 18 April, in a time of 3 hours 10 minutes. The Boston is the oldest marathon in the world, and the only one for which contestants are required to complete a marathon qualifier in order to compete.
Soon afterwards, on 6 May he was back in South Africa to compete in the African X with teammate Albert Pretorius. This was a 3 day stage run in Kleinmond in the Western Cape. The duo finished 5th in their category.
Later in the year Angelo will be running in his 3rd consecutive Wildcoast Wild Run 3 day challenge event over 110 km’s along the pristine coast of the eastern side of South Africa. An event in which he finished 4th overall last year. This event is scheduled for September this year.
COMING UP IN 2012:
Angelo will be competing his 2nd North Pole Marathon! More on this to follow…
